Israel Weather Information

Map of IsraelHere in the UK we all talk about the weather and it is the same in Israel. However, the focus of such conversations in Israel is slightly different.

While we are either looking at weather warnings or hose pipe bans, Israelis are discussing the temperature and when to go to the beach! Rain is also a big topic of conversation mainly because they don’t have much!

Temperatures vary greatly depending on the time of year. December and January are the coldest times of year, with snow falling in the north in places such as The Golan, where it is possible to ski and snow board for a short time. It has been known to snow in Jerusalem which makes for great pictures.

Weather Guide

However, for tourists chasing the sun in the winter, Eilat is the perfect destination. Set on Israel’s Red Sea coast it is never too hot. It’s great for activities such as sailing, wind surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, as well as sunbathing.

In winter Tel Aviv, on the Mediterranean coast, can be surprisingly warm by UK standards and ideal for sight seeing. Jerusalem in winter can be cold, especially at night, but still good for seeing the major sites.

In the summer it warms up just a little! Between June and September Tel Aviv, Haifa and Tiberias are hot and can be humid, making the beach or a pool the best place to be.

Jerusalem, Eilat and the Dead Sea have a dry heat, but it’s not recommended that you travel to the Dead Sea area in the scorching heat of 100 degrees! If you do, make sure you have plenty of water, lots of sun tan cream and a hat.

For moderate temperatures, the best seasons to travel to Israel are spring and autumn, in the months of March, April, October and November. These are also great time to see migration of birds going to and from their breeding grounds.

Have a look at our temperature chart and tailor the timing of your holiday to the weather and what you want to do while in the country.

But whenever you go have a great time!
